Happy Year of the Dragon!

Truth District has been mobbed ever since the 50% off sale was announced this weekend. The fact that many Truth hairs are on sale is reason enough to run over (you gotta nab 'em at the Truth District location for the sale price), including this week's brand-new "Alexis" double ponys updo, offering just my kind o' whimsical girlie style.
One truly remarkable aspect about SL is how multi-cultural our community is -- and how easily we can all embrace diversity, at least in our individual style. Many creators are honoring the Year of the Dragon with adorable Chinese New Year gifties, like these paper cutout framed pictures free by bbqq; today's look also celebrates red as the traditionally lucky color, from this free cherry-striped mesh dress to the new cerise bloom earmuffs by Boom (something about this rich cherry color so reminds me of the Beats headphones I keep seeing on hipster heads around Manhattan).
In other news, if you haven't rolled around in a messy pool of spilled liquid recently -- well, you just haven't been embracing your inner video vixen. *strums air guitar, flicks more tea in hair*

The Road To Hell is Paved With Good Intentions (aka SOPA, PIPA & Other Misdirected Maneuvers).

Rather than "black out" this blog in protest of the poorly drafted, overly broad proposed legislation in front of the US Senate otherwise known as SOPA (together with it's sister in crime, PIPA), I've chosen to offer some links so that y'all can see what all the hullaballoo is all about.

Is this overbroad legislation really about "rights"? Have we learned nothing from the music industry's utter failures to "solve" the issue of piracy via legislation (i.e., was suing/jailing teenagers for copyright infringement truly the most effective solution against piracy)? And does anyone genuinely believe that this is the most tightly crafted, finest piece of intelligently-worded legislation to get the job done against anti-piracy? See for yourself who's been shoving this garbage legislation in front of the House + Senate, then you decide what's really going on. It seems to me that these companies are first and foremost about making money off their content, regardless of how it affects the rest of America's rights to use the internet in the way we have constitutionally enjoyed to date. -- I mean, nobody begrudges these guys' ability to make $ from their own content; but as my Southern friends like to say, You don't use a hammer to swat a fly off someone's head.

Portraiture.

This week's new "Sophie" hair by Truth (1 of my all-time faves btw; so in luhs with the "twist" of hair above the tiny color-change bobbypin), together with some recent inspiration by my uber-talented buddies on Flickr, inspired me to play with some portraiture today.
Gavin also signed up to be my guinea pig, hehe. (This was more to test out my cheap-ass tablet, which I finally attempted to do after watching the ridic crazy talented Trace here).
There are many more peeps much more adept at photo work than I (this is self-evident, if you just prowl around on Flickr); but for whatever reason, I sometimes get asked about taking on photo work, although I never seem to have the time for it. That being said, this portraiture thing has really sparked my interest, so I've decided to explore taking on a few clients. Rates are negotiable, depending on what you want done; if you're interested, please contact me inworld (via both a NC and IM please) and we'll have a li'l chat to see if it's something that makes sense for both of us.

In other news, I hope everyone can take at least a few minutes today to honor 1 of our country's truly great visionaries for establishing what we today take for granted as institutional racial equality (+ a certain irrefutable dignity owed to all human beings), but also for that most radical concept: challenging status quo. -- Can you believe there was a time when inter-racial marriage + other "fraternizing" was actually illegal here? Some time ago, the lovely ladies over at the Tres Chic blog kindly let me join their talented crew of hardcore fashionistas, but with the crush of the RL holidays, etc., I'd been unable to post anything until now (sowwwy fabulous ladies! Fishy Strawberry creator Fae Eriksen's latest mesh goodies have been making the blog rounds all week, offering her usual scrumptious details (the teeny-tiny "stitching" on these pant seams is just tha yumz), which I styled a la my RL winter city style today (i.e., singular colors in the pants + boots, belts matching the bags + a single pastel hue on top; the oversized scarf is tres NYC winter as well).
