Giving Without Borders.

The most basic definition of humanitarianism has gotta be helping those less fortunate than yourself. Here in NYC, we working lemmings professionals do things like attend dress-up benefits + occasionally volunteer for stuff; by contrast, the medical volunteers for Doctors Without Borders (known outside the U.S. more commonly as Médecins Sans Frontières) give themselves in a very different way. -- I've often wondered about the kind of selflessness it takes to completely upend your life + head deliberately into the thicket (where disease and death are often rampant), so you can work tirelessly to help people you don't know.
CHIC Management's annual shopping event Culture Shock 2012 benefits Doctors Without Borders for a 2nd year, and I'm showing you several new items that are exclusive to this event. This ethereally flowy, dramatically pouffy "Pearl" gown is by Gizza; I added a sumptuously dark, rainbow eye-striped "Osumare" skin by cStar + some dark, pupil-less "Mime" eyes by Ugly Duck (just to keep it from getting too pretty). The other new Truth release this week -- this lush, youthful "Monica" double ponys mesh style -- lent a touch of playfulness to this lavish look.
I always appreciate discovering new designers at the CHIC Management events, like this girlie sweater & striped skirt set by justB. The new "Giselle" skin by Glam Affair, this colorful new "Cassie" red eyeshadow by The Sugar Garden + a gamine new girlie updo by Ploom added some cinched ponys + streaky 'tude.

My own contributions to humanitarianism might be pitifully small, but I can at least encourage everyone to visit Culture Shock 2012 when it kicks off on May 4. I like that the exclusive items are marked very clearly, with the % of sales going to the charity clearly listed as well (many of the proceeds are set to 100%) -- so you know exactly how much you're donating with each sale.

Felidae Et Equus

Leopard and zebra prints in the latest BAX animal print boots (released earlier this month) + this week's new Truth hairs (both long-ish and lioness-like) inspired these 2 rawrrry looks today.
I've been unable to take off this new Ugly Duck "Babette" skin, mostly 'cuz it so closely resembles a serene china doll's face (the carefully-pursed lips are exquisite). -- I also noticed that on such a pale skin tone, dark lipsticks totally affect how "mature" the skin feels; this would be so fun to style with darker looks as well.
This zebra look is a li'l matchy-matchy, but that was my mood today (plus how perfect are these free Sheer zebra tights with these boots)? Some chunky turquoise jewelry + the newest gold 'n feather accessories by Glow Studio spruced things up a bit. -- See what I mean about this lipstick? Luhs.
The watermelon slice in the 1st pic + this lusciously textured tub of floating watermelons, tomatoes + beer are both free, courtesy of mah girl Canue Glazner, who's put a ridic number of free gifts in the Notices of her +9 group. The free wearable watermelon slice also comes with a cute woodchuck-like nom nom-ing animation that's tres perfect for those summer munchies.

Chicken 'n Waffles

I was styling my 2nd installment of images for Le.Look! when I happened upon this free military "jacket shirt" by Whippet & Buck just hanging out on a back wall (no idea how old this gift is, but it wasn't already in my inventory). For some reason this put me in a finger-lickin' mood; some free tasty fried chicken from Poche helped curb the ol' poultry cravings, which were 'specially tasty with this free waffle ring that everybody's been wearing. *dribbles chicken juice on self; sops it up with waffle*
I'm also showing some brand-new pieces from the Glow Studio summer collection (including these fabby feather necklace + earrings, freakin' fantastic feather ring + sumptuously thick lashes), the latest flowey headband "Lacey" hair by Truth + a pretty new "Babette" skin by mah girl Fade Lei for her Ugly Duck skin line (glowy skin fans, this one's for you), all of which glammed up this casual look a notch or three. -- I have no idea why my free cuppycake friends were so upset; maybe 'cuz they knew their tasty selves were gonna be eated soon. Ugly Duck creator Fade Lei's "dark tears" skin has been a photog fave on Flickr recently + it's obvs why; if dark emo is your thang, this lovely pale face -- featuring just a touch of petal pink dabbed on the cheekbones -- offers a remarkably striking visage (these A+++ fathomless black eyes are included too).
