Fifteen Men On A Dead Man's Chest — Yo-Ho-Ho, and A Bottle of Rum!

Last week Tesh threw a blogging challenge my way: to come up with a look that

a) is not a style that I would normally wear;
b) uses at least 1 freebie; +
c) still looks a little smexeh.

Its on.

Here's my look: Smexeh Pirate, a mix of old school swashbuckler and modern day Johnny Depp.

Shiver Me Timbers!

LoveMe Some Leggings

LoveMe creator Callia Pearl passed me these lovely animal-print leggings that I just had to share with you. Check out the rich texturing + itty bitty wrinkles on these. *mwuahs Callia Pearl* Little red touches, from Callia's double hair bows to the trim on these socks (+ fabby crimson shoes), finished this look.
Callia has set out these vibrant blue and white leggings in this next pic as a gift for free (aren't they fun)? -- In other news, a certain someone is getting quite excited for his Halloween candy. *mwuahs Gavin*
The itutu folks are setting up a Halloween festival in their courtyard, and you can grab some early gifts now, like Gavin's $1L orange pumpkin hair by DPYumYum (notice the oh-so-festive green stem) + this $1L leafy wreath by Atelier AM that I'm wearing above (there's free cobwebs decorations + free pumpkin heads too; just poke around the little carts to find them).

Hump Day love + fashionista kisses to all!

Woodsy

A woodsy look for ya inspired by this free leafy crown from the Snow White hunt (you actually get tiny red apples at the tips of the crown branches). A free hot pink strapless dress by zozo, some $1L rainbow striped tights by Petit Ange (that I saw on Newreem's blog here) + 2 purses finished this look: a "flying pig" purse + another hanging neck purse, both by Natural.
This gift included the craziest thing: a wearable Snow White coffin "scene," complete with les bunnehs to watch over you. And fireflies. No Prince Charming, tho'. -- Which kinda makes ya think that the whole Snow White tale could be thought of as Just Another Example of a Man Being Late. Heh.
Strange happenings in these woods. Woodsy love + fashionista kisses to all!

Schoolgirl Lost En Route To Disneyland

Once upon a time, this naughty li'l schoolgirl (moi) decided to ditch school and head to Disneyland for a day of fun. What could possibly happen?
Strange, I always thought my school was in a better neighborhood. These grafitti walls are sure purdy tho.
Well I might be lost, but at least my pants are fabby. Aren't these "slashes" of asymmetrical red plaid (on the inside of the leg) totally brill? I'm so living for these black leather half-gloves. Plus my red bow Minnie ears are way cute. -- Lemme tellya when you're sad, lost and alone, it's such a comfort to rely upon your own steely-strong fashion sense. I was totally congratulating myself on my stylistic clear-headedness when I bumped into Weird Guy.
"Hey there Disney girl. You lost? You want some candy?"
Um, no thanks Weird Guy. Interesting hat hair situation you got goin' on tho.

"Well can I film you for a minute then?"
"How's about a game of Twister?"
At this point, an unfriendly Rottweiler suddenly appeared + started attacking Weird Guy. (Seriously. They appear outta nowhere in the Silent Hill SIM + start biting you). Miraculously at the same exact moment, a busload of senior citizens en route to Disneyland stopped + cheerfully offered me a lift. Here I am running for their bus (carefully, 'cuz my superhigh stilettos wouldn't let me run too fast).
I was glad to be rid of Weird Guy. I mean he was super friendly + all, but his fashion choices so did not go with my outfit.

Finally, Disney! I was way excited for the teacups ride.
Dumbo is one of my favorite characters. Who can resist an elephant in a neck ruffle? When I spotted him I just had to rock a li'l pose. And since it was getting cold, I slipped on my matching cropped black jacket. Aren't these puffy half-sleeves + high collar too good?
School has been a real snoozefest lately, so tomorrow I think I'll head to Sea World. Lesson of the day: arrange mode of transportation beforehand.

Love + fashionista kisses to all!

xoxo

FreeSexyCool: The Plastik, Magika + Maitreya

After the hunt + costume madness that was Halloween in SL, some really cool gifts have surfaced on the grid this week. If you haven't done the Trapped in the '80s hunt yet, do it. This free giant hovering vinyl record seat from Concrete Flowers is reason enough. It spins you round 'n round. In the immortal words of Dead or Alive: "You spin me right round baby right round . . . Like a record baby, right round round round. . .". I totally heart the cheesy synth madness that is '80s music. Here I am chillin' with my Rubix cubes (two, unsolved) and Butterfinger (loose, still wrapped). Such insane things are hugely necessary in any life.
Check out this free giant color-changeable Legos seat from Mudhoney -- another Trapped in the '80s hunt gift. Comes with lotsa built-in poses too, like this chillax one here. You wouldn't think it, but giant pink Legos are very well-suited for lounging.
I was doing the Changing of the Seasons Hunt when I happened to see one of my favie dresses from this summer being given away for free on the The Plastik's lucky board. This killer dress comes complete with near-scandalous decolletage + an even more daring barbed wire belt. I also love how the dark teal hue being gifted is such a flattering color on all skin tones.
As part of the Changing of the Seasons Hunt, Magika is gifting this free winter "bobble hat" hair with sexy long ponys trailing down either side. These free black pump-boots from Maitreya that everyone + their mother have been parading around totally channel Prada for me so I heart them much. And here are those brand-new boy sox from Naive again. Their cam-worthy, micro-detailed ribbing textures are downright yum.
YV's silver-rimmed Lady Gaga-like gloves + Kosh's free adorable "vinyl record charms" bracelet capped off this look. And the mouth razor blade? Just seemed like a badass touch. Didn't hurt at all, either.
Hoops are essential wear for toughie chicks + my beloved go-to jewelry store U&R Dogs has put these free gorgi oversized ones in their 10-minute camping chair this week. Finally, this simple, fluttery white feather necklace that I found for $1L at the (now over) Designer's United showcase is so smex. You know something's good when you want one in RL. I just love posing in impossible places. Zooming up 20 stories to pose provocatively on a narrow steel beam? Eh, no probs. These pictures were shot in Sick, hands-down one of the most eye-popping cityscapes in SL.
All this high-altitude posing set my tummy to rumbling, so I skipped over to RazzBerry for some tasty yummies, like this jumbo maraschino mouth cherry. Not sure why this pic looks so naughty, but it kinda does, doesn't it?
A grilled cheese sandwich and giant chocolate chip cookies followed. Stop it, rumbling tummy!
Check out my continuing foodie adventures here (my fellow fashionista + SL foodie Sileny's site that focuses on SL foodstuffs).

Back to fashion, Gavin seemed to like this dress too. Here we are gettin' our squeeze on. I changed hair for better nuzzling. Hee.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to download some supercheeze '80s tunes + air-guitar it somethin' fierce when I think nobody is looking. Love + fashionista kisses to all!

PS. A word about content theft:

A lot has been going around on the blogs circuit this week about content theft and the 2-day boycott that was called for today + yesterday. While I totally appreciate the concept behind the boycott, I would like to share my own thoughts on it. In this blogger's humble opinion:

A) I think that the best way to support designers is to purchase their stuff legitimately, not boycott it, for any amount of time. (The 2-day boycott called for no purchasing whatsoever during this time). Regarding the effect of a boycott making a statement to Linden Labs -- see (D) below.
B) I think that the best way to get a movement heard is to provoke discussion, not silence it. (The 2-day boycott called for an outright silence on blogs, which I think is just downright nonsensical. If you are going to have a movement or boycott as an intended statement, at the very least, you need to let people know why it is happening, while it is happening, or the result is just apathy and confusion).
C) I think that the most effective way to prevent content theft is for each of us to flat-out refuse stolen materials, 360 days out of the year, not just for 2 days.
D) While I understand that the boycott was intended to be a statement to Linden Labs, I would be genuinely surprised if any of this got any meaningful response from LL, since in this (jaded) SLer's opinion, it would have to actually cost LL a significant chunk of money or resources to deal with, over a sustained amount of time (i.e., it would have to amount to an actual headache for them), before anything other than the mandatory lip service was in fact accomplished.

There were also different "calls to action" by separate awareness groups in-world, which I believe ultimately created some confusion (even for those of us who wanted to support the boycott) regarding what was actually being requested of us to do (i.e., which group do we listen to?) In addition, the 2-day boycott fell smack in the middle of the $50L Fridays that we now all know + love. In the future, I think unifying various groups' efforts as much as possible would really help make a more effective and cohesive statement to LL (which I recognize is much, much easier said than done).

That being said, I am a pessimistic optimist and despite my thoughts above, I sincerely commend anyone trying to take (any) action possible against this concern, in whatever way each of us chooses to do it. Clearly, thievery of any kind is stealing + not only hurts creators by undermining all their efforts to bring us the coolest, funnest goodies around, but therefore, us consumers who enjoy their products as well. Tesh out.
